SIDE MEMBER FOR VEHICLE FOR IMPROVING STRENGTH OF FRONT VEHICLE BODY BY INCREASING RIGIDITY REGARDLESS OF BONDING RIGIDITY OF CROSS MEMBER

PURPOSE: A side member for a vehicle is provided to improve the rigidity of the front body of the vehicle by increasing the strength of the side member against bending, tension and torsion without depending on bonding rigidity with the cross member. CONSTITUTION: A side member(1) of a vehicle is composed of a front side member(2), a rear side member(3) and a brace(4). The front side member is placed near a dash surface(D) of a longitudinal wall(51) of a dash panel(50), bent downward and extended from the front of the vehicle over the dash surface. The rear side member is placed close to the rear part of the dash surface, and bent upward. The rear side member is extended forward from the rear part of the vehicle body over the dash surface, and bonded to the front side member. The brace is contacted to the longitudinal wall in front of a bent part(22a) of the front side member.
