Reinforcement for tiles and slabs (14) and other long-lasting surface coverings on laminar foundations contains reinforcing elements (18) consisting of a smooth carrier(22) made of metal sheet material or sheeting on whose uppermost side facing the floor covering (14) a fixing medium is coated. The fixing medium vouchsafes a form- or material- locking binding with the mortar or adhesive middle layer (20)laid down whilst still moldable when laying the tiles or slabs.
