An LCD and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to planarize a common electrode on color filters, thereby preventing the leakage of light due to error arrangement of liquid crystal molecules, by overlapping neighboring color filters. A light shielding member(220) is formed above a substrate(210), wherein the light shielding member includes a plurality of linear parts for defining openings. A plurality of color filters(230) are positioned above the substrate, and have flat surfaces. The color filter has a first portion thicker than the light shielding member and a second portion thinner than the first portion. The second portion of the color filter crosses at least one of the linear parts of the light shielding member. A common electrode(271) is formed on the color filters, and contacted with the color filters.
