PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of compensating parameters of a laser encoder, capable of measuring positions at high accuracy in a wider operating temperature range and power fluctuation range than usual. SOLUTION: The method of compensating parameters of the laser encoder equipped with a 2-phase output type position detecting sensor comprises (1) calculating an angle inversely from a 2-phase output signal (y) output by the above laser encoder 41 by using a preset assumed parameter (xo) at a predetermined sampling time, and integrating angles to generate position information, (2) memorizing the above 2-phase output signals (y) of a plurality of different angle states output by the above laser encoder 41, and (3) updating the above assumed parameter (xo) according to the non-consistency of a set of 2-phase output signals (y) output when the set of the memorized plurality of 2-phase output signals (y) satisfy the required conditions of angle combinations and a set of 2-phase output signals (yo) created from the currently assumed parameters (xo).
