PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly detect the abnormality of the color tracer applied to a spacer for a light cable over the whole length thereof. SOLUTION: This abnormality detector of the color tracer is equipped with a photographing camera 11, an illuminator 12, a background reflecting plate 13, an arithmetic unit 14 and a monitor 15. The arithmetic unit 14 detects the foreign matter such as burnt residue or a particle of the color tracer from the image photographed by the photographing camera 11. This arithmetic unit 14 takes in the image photographed by the photographing camera 11, performs differentiation processing in the advance direction of the spacer 1 for the light cable with respect to the image, further performs binarization processing using a predetermined threshold value and detects the abnormality of the color tracer according to the obtained binarization data.
