摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow selectivity of ethylene oxide to be improved when ethylene oxide is produced by oxidizing ethylene and further allow ethylene oxide to be produced even when the reaction temperature is kept low.SOLUTION: A catalyst for producing ethylene oxide is obtained by depositing a catalytic component, which contains silver (Ag), cesium (Cs), rhenium (Re), and at least one element selected from the group comprising tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), chromium (Cr) and vanadium (V), on a sodium-containing alumina carrier. The relative surface concentration of Na to Al, which is obtained by using an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic method and is calculated by using expression 1, is 0.015-0.170. Expression 1: relative surface concentration to Al=(Napeak area/Nasensitivity factor)/(Alpeak area/Alsensitivity factor).
