The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for controlling automatic transmission of a motor vehicle having an engine and an automatic transmission including a clutch with an actuator for changing gear position comprising a detecting means for detecting a completion of the changing gear position and a signal generating means for generating a control signal to the actuator for applying continued pressure to the clutch for a predetermined time after the completion of the changing gear position.
