A modular building (122) for a toy building set (2) includes a planar member (124), or foundation, having raised ribs (136) on its top (130) and a wall member (126) having a wall portion (154) and a base portion (156). The wall portion of the wall member is substantially orthogonal to the base portion of the wall member. The base portion of the wall member has a cleft (160) therein sized to receive one of the ribs (136) of the foundation (124) to removably attach the wall member to the foundations. A substantially planar coupler (128) connects at least two or more of the foundations. The coupler has at least two clefts (160) therein. The clefts are sized to receive the ribs ( 136) on each of the two foundations for removable attachment of the foundation of the coupler. <IMAGE>
