Curved teeth for gear pump

A gear, a gear pump (10) and a method for pumping elastomeric material having two gears with meshing herringbone gear teeth (30) are disclosed. Each of the gear teeth (30) has helical side portions (32) and a curved central portion (34) which extends circumferentially of the gear a distance equal to at least one half the pitch (P) of the gear teeth (30) to provide a continuous squeezing contact between the teeth of the two gears for pumping a uniform strip of elastomeric material from the gear pump (10).
