The method involves measuring an electromagnetic radiation (3) of a region of a surface of an object (2) by a measuring unit (4), where the electromagnetic radiation is radiated from heating treatment. The region of the surface of the object is subjected with laser beams of a laser (1). The level and the distribution of the temperature of the region of the surface are determined from measurements of the electromagnetic radiation, where the temperature rise is an indirect measure for the roughness of the region of the surface. An independent claim is also included for a device for rapid integral and contactless measuring of roughness of a region of the surface of an object.
