The cable is suspended in the space (28) between two carriages (10,10') running behind each other. The cable is of a predetermined diameter and suspended loop diameter. A secure bridge is achieved by the provision of a pre-formed, arc-shaped, dimensionally stable loop in a central section of the suspended cable. The radius of the loop measures less than half the difference between the characteristic cable suspended loop diameter and the cable diameter.
