Remedies for sepsis and symptoms associating sepsis (septic shock, disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome, adult respiratory distress syndrome, multiorgan function failure, etc.). These remedies contain as the active ingredient opioid .kappa. receptor agonistic compounds such as (-)-17 - (cyclopropylmethyl)-3,14.szlig.-dihydroxy-4,5a-epoxy-6.szlig. [N-methyl-tran s- 3-(3-furyl)acrylamido]morphinan hydrochloride. These opioid .kappa. receptor agonistic compounds may be orally or parenterally administered either as suc h or as in the form of medicinal compositions prepared by mixing with publicly known pharmacologically acceptable acids, carriers, excipients, etc.
