PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device, equipped with a corona electrode which has superior durability with respect to ozone and moisture in the air, and can stably charge the surface of a photoreceptor drum over the entire service period of an image forming apparatus, and that has low manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: In the charging device 24, including the corona electrode 50 comprising a plate part 57 and a pointed projecting part 58, a support member 51, a shielding case 55 and a grid electrode 56, a covering layer, containing material different from the material constituting the corona electrode 50, is formed on at least a part of the surface of a pointed projecting 58a constituting the pointed projecting part 58.
