A power transmitter has: a power transmission coil for wirelessly transmitting power to a power receiver by using magnetic field resonance or electric field resonance; a power transmission control unit for controlling the power transmission coil; and a power receiver detection unit for detecting the power receiver by making the power receiver approach or contact. The power receiver detection unit is provided in the vicinity of an area where power is supplied by the power transmission coil and performs a mutual authentication between the power receiver detection unit and the power receiver when the power receiver is made to approach or contact.
