A method and apparatus for controlling a welding operation are disclosed. A power source is in communication with a microphone present in an article of welding apparel such as the welding helmet of a welder. The welder provides spoken commands which instruct the power source to perform an action such as turning on a welding torch or increasing the speed of the feed of wire to the weld. This obviates the need for the welder to stop the welding operation and manually adjust the power source. |
