The present invention relates to an opt-in car to car communication community. A mobile operator establishes a website for registration. The prospective user logs onto the website of the service provider and fills in an online form to register, for example demographic information, car make and registration, etc. The user may elect to join one or more mobile communities which may consist of users with a common interest. For example, a registered user may register his or her unique interest in classic cars (a classic cars mobile community option is registered). The user may request communication with a recipient by supplying the recipient's vehicle registration number. Vehicle to vehicle communication can take place while retaining telephone number privacy.
