<p>Disclosed is a super high-pressure mercury discharge lamp having high reliability, wherein the possibility of blowout of a quartz bulb is low. Specifically disclosed is a super high-pressure mercury discharge lamp having an arc tube wherein a pair of electrode systems are hermetically sealed in a quartz bulb. This super high-pressure mercury discharge lamp is characterized in that the pair of electrode systems respectively have an electrode (21b) having a welding portion (21b-2), a foil having an end welded to the welding portion (21b-2), and a lead wire connected to the other end of the foil. This super high-pressure mercury discharge lamp is also characterized in that the cross-sectional shape of the welding portion (21b-2) perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the electrode (21b) is generally sinusoidal, generally trapezoidal or generally semicircular, and the foil is welded to a planar portion of the welding portion (21b-2) having the largest area.</p> |
