<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid electrolyte having a high lithium ion conductivity and capable of retarding occurrence of reflow cracking when a battery is mounted, and to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery using it. <P>SOLUTION: The solid electrolyte has components of xLi,yP,zS,wO(x+y+z+w=1), where x, y, z and w satisfy the following relations, 0.2≤x≤0.45, 0.1≤y≤0.2, 0.35≤z≤0.6, 0.03≤w≤0.13. In a thin film method X-ray diffraction image using K α-ray of Cu, 2θ substantially has peaks only at positions of 16.3±1°, 29.6±1°, 33.0±1° in the range of 10°-50°.
