PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition having good physical properties such as hue, transparency and heat resistance and low aldehyde content and useful as a beverage bottle or the like by including a specified amount of a specified metal compound, a phosphorus compound and an antimony compound. SOLUTION: This polyester composition is obtained by polymerization of terephthalic acid or the like with ethylene glycol or the like in the presence of at least one metal compound selected from an alkali (alkaline earth) metal, cobalt, manganese, titanium and zinc, a phosphorus compound and an antimony compound wherein (1) 0.2<=M<=2.0 [M is the total number of moles of metals, that is, an alkali (alkaline earth) metal, cobalt, manganese, titanium and zinc based on 106 g polymer], (2) 0.8<=P<=5.0 (P is the total number of moles of phosphorus based on 106 g polymer), (3) 0.1<=M/P<=0.5 and (4) 0.8<=Sb<=3.0 (Sb is the total number of moles of antimony based on 106 g polymer) are satisfied.
