<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a movement estimation device and a method, capable of releasing a block artifact by estimating a movement considering correlation between a candidate movement vector of a current block and the movement vector of a peripheral block adjacent to the current block. <P>SOLUTION: The device comprises a total area retrieving part for dividing a current frame/field into many blocks and estimating a temporary movement vector of each divided block, a candidate movement vector estimation part and a movement correction part. The candidate movement vector estimation part calculates many movement prediction error values by applying a block matching system to the current block for estimating movement out of respective blocks and then estimates at least one candidate movement vector for compensating the current block from the movement prediction error values corresponding to a critical value or less. The movement correction part calculates the degree of correlation between each candidate movement vector and the movement vector of the peripheral block adjacent to the current block and corrects at least one of candidate movement vectors as the final movement vector of the current block in accordance with the calculated degree of correlation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
