PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device allowing a desired character to be easily inputted even by a small apparatus.

SOLUTION: A selection object character creation means 1 for creating the information of a selection object character string is connected to a display means 2 to display the selection object character string. A contact position detection means 3 detects the information of a position of a part to which a pen or a finger of a human contacts; and the moving distance and the moving direction of an object contacting the detection means 3 are calculated from momentarily changing position information in a selection position generation means 4 based on the position information to further carry out a changing process of the selection object characters.
