<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical light part such as a variable optical attenuator, an optical modulator and an optical switch or the like which are used in an optical communication system, have small size, low power consumption and are used in a high speed operation. <P>SOLUTION: The magneto-optical light part consists of a Faraday rotator 20, permanent magnets 30 and 31 which are used to apply magnetic field components to the Faraday rotator 20 along the perpendicular direction with respect to a light beam incident surface 20a and an electromagnet 32 which makes the position, where the magnetic field components being applied to the Faraday rotator 20 become zero, variable. The permanent magnets 30 and 31 are arranged at the back of the Faraday rotator 20 looking from the perpendicular direction to the light beam incident surface 20a. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
