A channel (1) adapted for at least one of providing and receiving signals comprises a channel clock domain (11), whereby said channel clock domain is under clock control of a channel clock. The channel clock domain comprises at least one of: a drive path (13) adapted for providing signals and receive path (15) adapted for receiving signals. The channel further comprises a service clock domain (9) adapted for at least one of providing data to and receiving data from said channel clock domain, whereby said service clock domain is under clock control of a service clock. The division of the channel in a channel clock domain plus a service clock domain allows changing the frequency of the channel clock without deactivating the clock used in the service clock domain. <IMAGE>
