PURPOSE: A digital photographing device and a control method thereof are provided to determine abnormal situations and protect the lens barrel in advance. CONSTITUTION: A image analyzing unit(210) analyzes the feature of a first image and a second image. A lens barrel operation control unit(220) controls the operation of a lens barrel according to the analysis result. The image analysis unit includes a motion vector comparing unit. The motion vector comparing unit calculates a motion vector of the first image and the second image. When the size of the motion vector is greater than a threshold value, the lens barrel operation control unit outputs a lens barrel control signal.
