A respirator helmet 10' or other helmet adapted to receive, by means of a plug 66 and socket arrangement 70, a pivotable bar 62 carrying a protective screen 63 such that the screen 63 is pivotable relative to the plug and socket arrangement 70 and may be moved between a lowered position in front of the face of the wearer of the helmet and a raised position. In a separate aspect, the helmet 10' comprises a filter 28, a fan 26, a bypass conduit 44, means 46 for measuring the flow rate of air passing through the conduit 44, and means 50 for controlling the fan 26 in response to the measured flow rate. |
