PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously in an easy process, producing a dentifrice which is uniformly dispersed binder or the like and is excellent in shape-retaining property and surface gloss. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the method for producing the dentifrice comprising the binder, a polishing agent, a foaming agent, a moistening agent, a perfume and water. The method comprises the steps of: preparing an aqueous solution of the moistening agent with a ratio of the moistening agent/water=85/15-40/60 (mass ratio) and then feeding the binder powder with the aqueous solution to a continuous mixing and dispersing machine to prepare the binder dispersing liquid; swelling and dissolving the binder in the binder dispersing liquid by feeding liquid material containing the binder dispersing liquid and remaining water to the mixing machine; and mixing remaining materials containing perfume, polishing agent, the foaming agent to the swelling solution of the binder. A uniform dispersion (partly swelling) without formation of undissolved lump is obtained according to the above method. The adhesion of a remaining substance to piping can be suppressed and the number of small tanks required can be reduced. An effective swelling and dissolving can be carried out and thus, a high quality dentifrice with excellent shape-retaining property and surface gloss is effectively produced.
