FIELD: information technology. ^ SUBSTANCE: imaging apparatus for capturing images of a subject under given external illumination conditions. The apparatus has a housing with an opening; a camera for capturing a digital image; a light source or illuminating the subject during image capturing; a first display having a panel for self-observation inside the housing for displaying digital images of the subject captured by said camera, and enabling the subject to view themselves in the form in which they appear when located in said opening; a second display viewed from outside the housing for displaying the digital image of the subject captured by said camera, said second display having an operator interface through which the imaging apparatus can be controlled, a computer for controlling the camera and a light source. The camera and the light source are located inside a chamber which has a passage from said opening to said camera and said light source, and said passage is configured to at least partially limit external illumination during image capturing and displaying on the first display. ^ EFFECT: enabling automatic identification of the facial area of a subject on images in order to increase the speed and stability of identifying facial areas and reduce dependence from specialist input. ^ 14 cl, 6 dwg
