PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heater for a hydrogen storage apparatus capable of reducing the unevenness degree of a temperature distribution. SOLUTION: The heater 2 comprises a combustion chamber 29 for burning a combustible gas, a catalyst 35 for burning the combustible gas carried to a catalyst carrying unit 32 existing in the chamber 29, an inlet 30 for the gas, and an outlet 31 for the gas communicating with the chamber 29. The heater 2 is contact disposed with a hydrogen storage unit which fills a hydrogen absorbing material. The carrying unit 32 has a catalyst non-resident region 45 having a plurality of slits 46 and extended from a part connected to the inlet 30 for the gas into the chamber 29.
