IMAGE COMPOSITING METHOD, SOLID-STATE IMAGE PICKUP DEVICE AND DIGITAL CAMERA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an unnatural image from being generated around the saturation of a high sensitive image signal when the high sensitive image signal and a low sensitive image signal are composited to generate a wide dynamic range object image. SOLUTION: In an image compositing method for compositing the high sensitive image signal GHand the low sensitive image signal GLoutputted from a solid-state image pickup element that picks up the image of the object to generate an object image signal, the high sensitive image signal GHand the low sensitive image signal GLoutputted from the same pixel position of the solid-state image element and applied to nonlinear change, are subjected to weighted addition in the whole range of an incident light range to composite an object image signal GC. This smoothly connects nonlinear transformation characteristics in the whole range of the incident light level to prevent an unnatural image from being generated around the saturation of the high sensitive image signal.
