An apparatus and a method for detection and notification for peripheral objects are provided to enable a user to recognize a peripheral situation and take an appropriate measure rapidly without constantly executing judgement for surroundings in person by announcing the occurrence of a peripheral situation to the user according to various notification conditions. An apparatus for detection and notification for peripheral objects comprises a message analysis part(102), a peripheral object information control part(103), and a notification part(104). The message analysis part analyzes the information of an alive message received from a peripheral object and judges whether the analyzed information exists within a certain range. The peripheral object information control part adjusts the peripheral object's alive message transmission cycle on the basis of a result from the message analysis part and updates the state information of the peripheral object. The notification part notifies the user of the updated state information according to notification conditions.
