An assembly for modifying airflow into a nasopharyngeal airway or trachea of a patient. A valve assembly is adapted to attach to an airflow generator. A linear actuator is signaled by the airflow. An inhalation valve is within the feed tube at the inlet. An exhalation valve is within the feed tube at the outlet, the exhalation valve adapted to slide axially within the feed tube and incrementally cover the outlet, moving in unison with the inhalation valve. A drive means operates the inhalation valve and the exhalation valve simultaneously such that upon sliding of the inhalation valve toward the mask side, the exhalation valve thereby slides towards the mask side, wherein upon activation of both the airflow generator and a controller circuit, pressurized air from the airflow generator continuously enters the feed tube but is converted to a single, repeatable burst. |

1. An assembly for modifying airflow into a nasopharyngeal airway or trachea of a patient, comprising:
a valve assembly adapted to attach to an airflow generator, wherein said airflow generator is a continuous blower of a type producing a constant head of pressurized air, said valve assembly having an airflow side and a mask side, an inlet and an outlet defined between said airflow side and said mask side, and a feed tube, said valve assembly further comprising:
a linear actuator mounted exterior to said feed tube;an inhalation valve within said feed tube at said inlet, said inhalation valve adapted to slide axially within said feed tube and incrementally cover said inlet;an exhalation valve within said feed tube at said outlet, said exhalation valve adapted to slide axially within said feed tube and incrementally cover said outlet,a drive means for operating said inhalation valve and said exhalation valve in unison such that upon sliding of said inhalation valve toward said mask side, said exhalation valve thereby slides towards said mask side; a controller circuit connected to said linear actuator for operating said linear actuator incrementally; and, wherein upon activation of both said airflow generator and said controller circuit, pressurized air from said airflow generator continuously enters said feed tube from said inlet but passes out of said outlet only when said linear actuator causes said inhalation valve to move in response to inhalation and thereby simultaneously move said exhalation valve to at least partially block said outlet such that said pressurized air is converted into a single, repeatable burst. |
