PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which acquires image data not including excess regions by automatically setting an image reading range with a simple configuration so as to read a reading medium. SOLUTION: An image reading mechanism 1 is provided with: guide members 2, 3 for forming a paper carrying path P on which paper S is carried and movably located depending on width of the paper S; first and second carrying roller pairs 4, 5 for carrying the paper S inserted onto the paper carrying path P; and an image reading sensor 10 for reading the paper S carried on the paper carrying path P. Then, the image reading sensor 10 reads the paper S depending on the image reading range set by a CPU to generate two-dimensional image data. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
