PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network document management system for saving the trouble in classification by automatically switching storage destinations through the recognition of a form of scan image data. SOLUTION: In the network document management system wherein a digital composite machine for transmitting scanned image data, a document management server for carrying out storage management of received image data and user information in cross-reference with each other, and clients for browsing documents stored in the document management server are interconnected, a client includes a means for generating form information and transmitting the form information to the server, and the server includes: a means for authenticating the user; a means for storing the format information received from the client in cross-reference with a folder; and a means for searching the format information received from the client and newly generating a folder when the format information is not stored, and storing the information as cross-reference information, and the composite machine includes: a means for transmitting folder information and the format information to the server; and a means for determining a storage destination of document data on the basis of a result of searching received from the server.
