PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine which can suppress the diffusion of fuel in a combustion chamber at stratified charge combustion.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 10 is constituted so as to be capable of creating a positive tumble flow in a combustion chamber. At an apex face 16 of the combustion chamber, a first salient part 24 which is salient in a protruded shape toward a crown face 18 of a piston is formed at the side of an exhaust port with respect to a reference face which is parallel with a crankshaft including a plug center axis L1. Furthermore, at the crown face 18 of the piston, a second salient part 26 which is salient in a protruded shape toward the apex face 16 of the combustion chamber 12 is formed at the side of an intake pipe 28 with respect to the reference face S1. A first edge 243 and a second edge 263 are formed at the first salient part 24 and the second salient part 26, respectively, and a distance I1 from the reference face S1 up to the first edge 243 is set so as to be equal to a distance I2 from the reference face S1 up to the second edge 263.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
