A quality measurement-based face recognition method and apparatus according to the present invention is characterised by: detecting a face image from an input video image; measuring the quality of the detected face image in order to determine whether the detected face image is a recognised face image; extracting face characteristics information from the detected face image if the detected face image is determined to be a recognised face image; and executing a face recognition using the extracted face characteristics information.
