PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot rolled wire rod allowing for stable production of an extra fine high strength steel wire which does not require patenting treatment at all, has high strength and does not break when stranded.SOLUTION: The hot rolled wire rod for a high strength steel wire is provided which has a diameter of 3.0 to 4.0 mm and contains, by mass%, C: over 0.50 to 0.75%, Si:0.1 to 0.5% and Mn:0.1 to 1.0%, and in which: perlite occupies 80% or more by area ratio and the balance is composed of proeutectoid ferrite and bainite; strength is in a determined range with respect to a relationship with the C amount; variation in the strength of one rolled wire in a coil is in ±50 MPa from average strength; and scale amount and scale particle diameter near scale/base material boundary is in a predetermined range. This can suppress variation in strength. As a result of reduction of variation in strength and securing easiness of descaling, quality stability after wire drawing can be achieved without performing patenting.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
