In an aqueous concentrate containing surfactant and electrolyte, especially washing-up concentrate, suitable for dilution with water whilst maintaining or increasing the viscosity. In an aqueous concentrate containing surfactant and electrolyte, especially washing-up concentrate, suitable for dilution with water whilst maintaining or increasing the viscosity, the electrolyte is a combination of: (a) aromatic carboxylic acid(s) of formula RCOOH (I) or their salt(s); and (b) inorganic acid(s) (II) their salt(s). R = aryl. Independent claims are included for methods of preparing diluted aqueous detergents for: (a) washing up; or (b) cleaning hard surfaces by diluting 1 part volume concentrate with 0.5-5, preferably 0.6-3, especially 0.7-2, more especially 0.8-1.2, particularly 1 part volume water.
