PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and the version check method of the printer for judging whether or not a W boot sector and a main sector have been normally rewritten. SOLUTION: A CPU 101 selects either the W boot sector A204 or the W boot sector B203 in which boot data to be started are stored based on boot selector data. Then, the CPU 101 verifies a version character string installed in the W boot sector A204, the W boot sector B203 and the main sector 202. When it is verified that the version character string of the main sector 202 is matched with the version character string of the selected W boot sector A204 or W boot sector B203, the main data in the main sector 202 are executed.
