<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display information on a toner residual amount and image quality state within an image forming apparatus in the form necessary for a user's judgement in the user's maintenance. <P>SOLUTION: The toner residual amount and image quality in a state of the image forming apparatus are displayed continuously or in multistages, and both displays are indicated by being associated with each other. The associated displays includes the two-dimensional display using an ordinate and abscissa, a combination of a form display by characters and graphs, and a color display, a display by the continuous curves of the toner residual amount and image quality, and the like. In the case of the two-dimensional display, for example, the image quality is indicated at the ordinate and the toner residual amount at the abscissa. In nine pieces of the cover elements, the increasing lower elements are indicative of the deteriorated image quality, and the increasing righter elements are indicative of the decreased residual amounts. Based on the toner residual amount detection and the image quality evaluation, one of the display elements lights to display the respective states.
