A rotation limiting assembly for the vertical shaft 1 that supports the nacelle of a wind turbine and which rotates within a mast housing 6 includes a cable end connection arrangement 2 fixed around the circumference of the shaft, and a length of cable 9 having one end connected to a selectable fastening point 2 of the connection arrangement within the mast housing and the other end connected to a tension spring which is anchored to a point exterior of the mast housing. A fairlead 3, 4 through which the length of cable between the ends can move is mounted on the wall of the mast housing. As the shaft rotates in either direction away from a neutral rotational position in which the cable is under tension, the cable is wound around the shaft and the spring is stretched further so as to tend to unwind the shaft and return the shaft to the neutral position which corresponds to the position in which the rotor of the turbine faces the prevailing wind direction at the place where the turbine is installed. |
