PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new control method for the light emitting unit and the optical modulation device of a projector. SOLUTION: A frame period includes a plurality of sub-periods, and each sub-period includes a plurality of color periods. The control unit of the projector controls a light emitting unit to sequentially emit light of a plurality of colors in the plurality of color periods in each sub-period. The control unit controls the modulation state of a plurality of optical modulation elements included in an optical modulation device according to a plurality of pixel data. Specifically, the control unit controls the modulation state of the optical modulation element in a specified color period in each sub-period according to the specified color data included in the pixel data. Intensity of light of a specified color emitted from the light emitting unit in a specified color period of a first kind of sub-period is set to be lower than intensity of light of the specified color emitted from the light emitting unit in the specified color period included in a plurality of second kinds of sub-periods.
