PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce accuracy required for a cylinder internal pressure sensor, when estimating a combustion state of fuel by injection divided into a plurality of times based on a cylinder inside pressure detecting value. SOLUTION: This inventor pays attention to the fact that a larger change appears in cylinder inside pressure caused by combustion of the fuel by main injection (second injection) more than cylinder inside pressure caused by the combustion of the fuel by pilot injection when an actual injection quantity or the injection timing (a combustion state) of the pilot injection (first injection) changes. That is, a target value is corrected so that the actual injection quantity or the injection timing approaches the target value by estimating the actual injection quantity or the injection timing of the pilot injection based on main combustion-time cylinder inside pressure caused by the combustion of the fuel by the main injection out of the cylinder inside pressure detecting values of a combustion chamber detected by the cylinder inside pressures sensor.
