PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver capable of suppressing sound quality deterioration in selectively switching to excellent one of upside and downside heterodyne systems of a second broadcast radio wave when switching a broadcast radio wave to perform reception processing thereon from a first broadcast radio wave to the second broadcast radio wave on predetermined conditions. SOLUTION: A receiver 1 is an RDS broadcast receiver, for example, and has features in mute operation during an alternative frequency (AF) search. A tuner 2 is LOW-IF one-chip type tuner and for the AF search of a radio data system (RDS), a suitable heterodyne system is selected in accordance with an AF reception environment. Mute cancel is performed between acquiring operation of reception environment information of an upside heterodyne system and acquiring operation of reception environment information of a downside heterodyne system, and reception processing of a broadcast radio wave of an original station is performed. Thus, a mute time with the AF search is shortened, and sound quality deterioration can be suppressed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
