<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly specify a defective recording element even when the read image of a test pattern is distorted. <P>SOLUTION: The read image data of the test pattern 102 recorded on a recording medium by a recording head having a plurality of recording elements is acquired. A reference area S including a part of the test pattern is set on the read image expressing the content of an image of the read image data, and a comparison area C1 to be compared with the reference area on the read image is set. While relatively shifting the comparison area C1 to the reference area S, correlation operation between the comparison area C1 and the reference area S is performed, and a distortion correction value is specified to correct the shift amount of the image in the comparison area relative to the image in the reference area from the result of the correlation operation. The image distortion of the read image is corrected by using the obtained distortion correction value, and the defective recording element in the recording head is specified on the basis of the corrected read image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
