EFFICIENT KEY HIERARCHY FOR DELIVERY OF MULTIMEDIA CONTENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus that relates to Digital Rights Management (DRM) and facilitates creation of an efficient key hierarchy for delivery of multimedia content.

SOLUTION: The apparatus includes means for receiving at least a portion of an asymmetric key pair from a client. The apparatus also includes means for creating a first symmetric key and at least a second symmetric key. The apparatus also includes means for utilizing the first symmetric key to encrypt the second symmetric key and means for encrypting the second symmetric key with the at least a portion of the asymmetric key pair. To encrypt information that can only be decrypted by a matched private key, asymmetric cryptography is used by a DRM system to deliver symmetric keys securely.
