PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for operating centralized base station in a mobile communication system is provided to locate a base station modem in a remote wireless unit thereby eliminate distance restriction between a digital unit and the remote wireless unit. CONSTITUTION: A local scheduler transmits the received information to a central scheduler of a digital unit(820). The local scheduler performs scheduling(830). The local scheduler receives a non-real time scheduling result from the central scheduler(840). The local scheduler determines transmission target data using the scheduling result of the local scheduler and the central scheduler(850). The local scheduler let the scheduler modem perform the processing of the determined data and transmission(860).
