PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and compact drive device for four wheel drive vehicle excelling in start acceleration on a low μ road requiring start assist and a drive method. SOLUTION: A direct current shunt motor, a reduction gear 54, and an electromagnetic clutch 8 have an integral structure, and a plurality of bearings 60 to 64 are arranged in such a way that each shaft 57 to 59 of the direct current shunt motor, the reduction gear, and the electromagnetic clutch is on the same axis. Moreover, the relation of a diameter D of an armature core 51A of the direct current shunt motor to a thickness L in the radial direction of a field winding 52 is L≈1/2(1±0.2)D. |
