摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a fuel cell where the contact resistance between the separator and an electrode under an oxidizing environment is kept low, which is excellent in corrosion resistance and whose production cost is lowered, and to provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The transition metal nitride has an M<SB>4</SB>N-type lattice structure where a nitrogen atom is placed in the octahedron void of a unit cell center in a face-centered cubic lattice which is formed with a transition metal atom selected among Fe, Cr, Ni and Mo and whose main component is Fe. The composition of metal elements forming the face-centered cubic lattice satisfies the relational formula: 5.9&le;([at%Fe]&times;6+[at%Cr]&times;5+[at%Ni]&times;8+[at%Mo]&times;5)&times;0.01&le;6.1.
