The winder has elastically supported bearer drums (1, 2), on which a winding reel (3) overlies or lies during winding of a material web e.g. paper web. A pressure- or load cylinder (5) is provided for exerting a contact pressure on the winding reel and/or for supporting the winding reel. The pressure- or load cylinder is provided with a position control device, and an actuator measures the contact pressure and/or supported weight of the winding reel. An independent claim is also included for a method for winding a winding reel in a winder.
