NOISE ELIMINATION DEVICE AND NOISE ELIMINATION PROGRAM FOR IMPROVING BINARIZATION PERFORMANCE OF DOCUMENT IMAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a noise elimination device and method for improving binarization performance of a document image. SOLUTION: The noise elimination device includes a gray-scale image smoothing means which smoothes noise points of a gray-scale image by information relating to directions of strokes of characters and outputs a smoothed gray-scale image; a gray-scale image binarizing means which binarizes the smoothed gray-scale image output by the gray-scale image smoothing means and outputs a binarized image, and a binary image noise elimination means which eliminates noise points of the binarized image output by the gray-scale image binarizing means on the basis of widths of strokes of characters.
